22. 3000 miles of advice

I had some good news from my recent webinar with the crew and participants for the run in June.  The longest day is shorter than I thought!  40 miles rather than 44.  That will make a huge difference.  That made me smile.  Also, I'm not sure whether this is good news or not, but with all the mileage I'm doing, everything else but my knee hurts! How to prevent injuries and treat anything that does occur has been part of my learning. With this in mind, a while ago I had a chat with Chris Finill (thanks for the introduction Graham).  Google 'The 3000 mile men' and watch on youtube.  'Wow' is all I could say.  He got me to read James Shapiro - Meditations from the Breakdown Lane: Running Across America - the book that inspired Chris to run across USA in 2011.  3100 miles in just under 80 days.   Not that this is Chris's only achievement.  He is no ordinary runner.  He's the Guinness World Record holder for consecutive sub 3 ho...

Joining me on the run

Anyone is very welcome to join me on the run, either to run, cycle or just be there on the route.  It would be great to see some familiar smiley faces to keep me going.

The starts and finishes of each day are here:

An overview of the route in Google maps is here but I think there are some route changes to it so don't rely on it.

The link to the satellite tracker with the detailed route will be here which should be more accurate. Last years tracker map is still up here.  Generally the aim is to set off at 8am each day, but it may be earlier for some of the longer days...

Contact Lesley for any up to date information about the route, pit stops etc during the event itself (I might not be in a fit state to respond in a timely manner!). We should have each weeks' definitive route the weekend before each week.

Please note the organisers of the event have requested this:

YOUR OWN SUPPORTERS

We welcome your own supporters running with you for some of the sections, should you wish to have some friendly company. They can be great for morale and give you a good boost when you’re tired and in need of a friendly face on the trails. If you do arrange for someone to join you, please remember the following:

  • They are entirely responsible for themselves in every respect.
  • Don’t let them stress you out!
  • Make sure you are respectful of your fellow runners.

That’s it. We won’t be able to feed, accommodate or transport them. They will need to look after themselves logistically and in every other manner.
